How do I change my shipping address?

Moving before Misen ships? No problem! Changing your shipping address either as a Kickstarter backer or through pre-ordering the knife on our website is easy.

For Kickstarter backers, you’re able to update your address manually any time before the knife ships through your CrowdOx survey. If you have any issues, or need help recovering your survey link, just drop us a line at

Do you ship internationally?


Right now, Misen is only shipping within the United States. Stay tuned for updates!

Does Misen cover taxes or duties for international customers?

Unfortunately, Misen does not cover taxes or duties for orders shipped internationally.

What is your return policy?

We stand behind our products and want you to be satisfied with your purchase. We accept returns and exchanges on any unused items in their original packaging within 21 days.  We can issue returns only to the original form of payment via credit card.

If you live in the US, we can provide you a pre-addressed shipping label to assist with your return. No postage is required, but a $7 shipping charge will be deducted from your refund. If you’d prefer, you can return your item via the carrier of your choice. We strongly recommend that you provide tracking for orders shipped yourself.

Please note that for international orders, we’re unable to provide labels for returns.

Sharpening + Care

How will free lifetime sharpening work?

A sharp knife = safer + more fun to use. While your Misen knife will arrive sharp, with continued use over time it will go dull, as all knives do.

We realize not everyone wants to take the time to learn how to sharpen their knives at home (but they should!), so we plan on offering free lifetime sharpening.

How long will I be able to go between sharpenings?

How often you’ll need to have your knife sharpened depends on how much you use it, so get cooking :)

How should I clean my knife?

We suggest washing your knife by hand with soap and warm water and drying immediately afterwards.

We STRONGLY suggest you never put the Misen Knife (or any high quality kitchen knife) in the dishwasher. Dishwashers can dull or even damage knife blades and handles.

How should I store my Misen Knife?

Well for starters, you REALLY SHOULD NOT store your knife uncovered in a drawer.

The constant knocking around can damage the blade’s edge, plus reaching your hand into a drawer full of knives is a recipe for disaster.

Knife blocks, magnetic strips, knife trays, blade guards...all these methods have advantages and disadvantages, but they are all better than no protection at all! At minimum, we suggest a blade guard.

What size is the Misen Chef's Knife?

The Misen Chef's Knife is 8.2”, or approximately 208mm.

What kind of steel is your knife made from?

Choosing the right steel is a balancing act between durability and edge retention.

Softer steels are more durable, meaning they won’t break, but they lose their edge quickly. Harder steels can hold an edge longer, but are more brittle and easier to chip.

For the Misen Chef's Knife, we decided to use Japanese AUS-8, a high carbon stainless steel that offers a great balance of durability and edge retention.

Where does the name Misen come from?

The name Misen comes from the culinary term 'mise en place', which essentially means to put everything in its proper place.

Chefs use the term to describe the process of setting up their ingredients before service. Misen is an ode to the mise en place; better food through proper preparation with quality tools. This is an incredibly powerful concept that can be applied not just to cooking, but to other parts of life as well.
